Kennon Briggs joined the MA team as Senior Advisor in 2014. Mr. Briggs brings high level expertise and experience in the sector of public finance and policies. He works closely with Municipal Acquisitions leadership to identify and solve for potential financial, political, and legislative obstacles before they develop and identify new investment opportunities.
Presently, Mr. Briggs is a Higher Education Consultant and serves as the Interim Chief Financial Officer at Alamance Community College. He is also a Member of the Board of Trustees at The University of North Carolina, Asheville and the Chair of the Finance Committee at Saint Francis United Methodist Church. Additionally, Mr. Briggs serves as a Partner at Upswing, a technology and learning company in Durham, North Carolina.
In 2012, Mr. Briggs retired from his tenure as the Executive Vice President and Chief of Staff of the Community College System of the State of North Carolina, after serving as Chief Financial Officer for the same organization for over 11 years. In these capacities, Mr. Briggs worked with the System on budget flexibility, enterprise funds, budget preparation and execution, as well as legislative strategy.
Prior to his roles in the North Carolina Community College System, Mr. Briggs was the Senior Budget Analyst for Higher Education at the Office of State Budget Management in North Carolina for 12 years. His previous work also includes the positions of County Manager for the County of Yadkin, North Carolina and County Administrator for the County of Jones, North Carolina.
Mr. Briggs earned a B.A. in Sociology and an M.P.A. in Urban Management from North Carolina State University. Additionally, Mr. Briggs engaged in post graduate studies at the School of Government at University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. Mr. Briggs and his wife, Kimberly, reside in North Carolina with their three daughters. In his spare time, he enjoys running competitively, gardening, and volunteering.
